This MLB offseason has been spicy so far and has seen the largest contract in sports history handed out to Juan Soto in the form of his 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets, but there is a lot more to be done before all the dust settles.
There is another star infielder being floated around in trade rumors of late, with the Houston Astros reportedly emerging as “serious suitors” for one perennial All-Star.
B/R Walk-Off shared on X that the Astros have emerged as serious suitors for St. Louis Cardinals star third baseman Nolan Arenado, whose days in St. Louis appear to be coming to an end.

The Cardinals and Arenado both appear ready to move on from one another, as team general manager John Mozeliak has stated clearly that he will do his part to try to trade Arenado, while also noting that Arenado has not demanded a trade.
The 33-year-old Arenado saw his offensive output hit a new low in 2024 with just 16 home runs, 71 RBIs, and just a .719 OPS, the lowest he has put up since his rookie year in 2013.
He’ll be 34 at the start of next season, but many teams still believe they can get more out of him offensively, while he remains one of the best in the business defensively.
Arenado could be a contingency plan if the Astros lose Alex Bregman in free agency, which is looking more likely with each passing day.
The Astros emerging as an Arenado suitor is an interesting development that likely means they know something about Bregman’s next move, and we’ll see what happens next as this story continues to unfold.
